Lesotho Letter

About 7 months ago our team began our journey to Lesotho, Africa. Lesotho is a country that is located in South Africa in the mountains. When I was there I had a thought that God wanted me to write a letter to any future missionaries that would go to Mount Moorosi. To be honest I thought it was kind of a fleeting thought but I still wanted to write it, so I did. I wrote about what we did there and some of the strongholds and some contacts we found and left my email in case someone came across it. I left it with the people who housed us.

Well a few days ago I received an email from some missionaries in South Africa who recently visited Lesotho. They told me that upon their visits a local there gave them my hand written letter!! They said they are planning on building a church there for that specific community. That church will also function as school during the week. They told me that they were so encouraged by the letter and that it further confirmed where God was sending them!

Wow God is so good! I am so glad that we were able to pray and prepare that place for these missionaries to come.

Water into Wine (HAITI)

The first night I arrived in Port-Au-Prince we went straight to Pastor Christian's house and met Lanny and Geftay. That night our conversation unfolded from our testimonies to a pretty much a bible study. Lanny and Geftay were preaching to us. And it was so cool because sometimes you think oh I am just arriving a this house but most of the time God has His own plan. I do not think anyone thought we are about to have divine appointment. We were just talking about God and when a group of people do that and English is being translated into Creole and Creole into English it is such an amazing thing to see. Seeing all 8 people on the porch talking in different languages and from different background yet all rejoicing in the goodness of God is an heavenly sight. Lanny would say something about John the Baptist and then Geftay would talk about God's voice and then Lanny would say "Wow that's good I need to write that down." Then Geftay would translate everything for Pastor Christian and his wife Jula and she would be clapping and filled with unrelenting joy! The Holy Spirit was moving and we just arrived!

As I prayed for Haiti I kept hearing God tell me to pray for water not fire. Every time I heard anything about water I paid close attention. When Geftay was talking he talked about Jesus' first miracle of turning water into wine. He pointed out that wine was the best wine and the most tasty. And he continued to speak truth over me about how God is going to transform me into wine. Papa Lanny was like "listen to him, God is changing you." They really helped me piece together the water prayers I have been having for Haiti. I feel like God is going to change the land with His living water. And just imagine that water turning into beautiful tasty wine. The best wine ever. God is creating a New Haiti. I love being reminded of the first miracle Jesus did since it just showed God's power in such a simple way. It is time for a tasty wine, a new Haiti to arise out of the rubble.

Double Hearts

Before I left for this trip two woman in my intercession group prayed over me and I had a vision of two hearts. The hearts were mirror images of one another. For the first few days of my trip I continued to ask God what it meant. I was thinking that it meant that Christ wants to reflect his heart with Haiti, for them to be one with His heart and one with His passions.

As our days went on there we prayed over several places. We began each morning with our alone time with God, then worship in our group, then prayer, and then went out into the city. I really enjoyed praying over the 3 government buildings that were destroyed during the earthquake. The three buildings were the Presidential Palace, Justice, and Legislation buildings. It was phenomenal to pray over them. Definitely my favorite day! While we were there we just heard about how corrupt the government was and I was able to pray for a new foundation for these buildings. A foundation built on God's justice and His righteousness! When I was praying for the Legislation building I had this thought of another building being there and it actually reminded me of a small college. My prayers took a turn to pray for college students and young people to be inspired to change their nation, that they would grow up to be people who fight for the poor and for justice. I felt honored to be there and pray for a foundation on God's truth.

After that we made our way to an orphanage to drop off some donations that we brought with us. As we entered and met the girls that lived there for the first time, each one of them greeted us with a kiss on the check and a "Bon swa!" (good afternoon in Creole). All of these girls were eager to know our names and spend time with us! They were so precious! Pastor Dan and Pastor Kelly took us to see the school, orphanage and church which was a few minutes away. When we arrived we saw the orphanage and it was half gone. Pastor Dan told us that one house mother died when she threw her body over some kids to protect them. As we listened to their stories of the tragedy I noticed on the window of the orphanage there were the double hearts! Just further confirmation about us being there!

Pastor Dan also told us about the girl that was walking around with us, Jesula. When the earthquake happened the other house mother ran away and 18-year old Jesula stepped up and took car of the 46 orphans for 10 days until Pastor Kelly could arrive on site. During that time she did this the community around them stole all of their food yet Jesula was able to keep the orphan girls safe. This girl is incredible...think about what you were doing at 18. They still need help right now since they do not have mattresses, sheets or adequate shelter to live in and the rainy season is starting. Please keep praying for them!!

Berlin and Going home

Wow!! Berlin was amazing!
What was so incredible about it?
Living out this ministry with our missionary family and their friends felt so natural. We lived in a house that was like a small hotel. There were different flats that had room for different families as well as dorm style rooms for us. This ministry just felt like "real" life. We lived in community with our family the 10 of us world racers and our family Chuck and Della and their 4 amazing kids and with several other people in the house. We worshiped together, we went as a HUGE family together to ministry and we just loved one another. It just felt amazing to have such a close bond to a family after just meeting them!!

I truly felt that those relationships were promises from God to me. I felt that the month before in Ukraine was a reminder of my life before the race when I lived in fellowship with Christian women in an apartment out of college. In Ukraine most of us women had our own ministries and we would come home and share with one another about what we did. But in Berlin we worked as a family unit. We helped one another out, encouraged one another and pushed one another forward with love. I feel like God was showing me that my life will look like this in the future that it was a promise to me that He is going to bring crazy cool godly people into my life that will help me out, encourage me and love me. God reassured me that He would handle things like He has done this whole year. Month after month this year God has shown me how faithful He is and that I can trust Him with everything including my return home.
God, again I surrender to you.

I am nervous about losing this huge community of Racers that I have gained but I know that God is going to provide in crazy ways. I also know that God wants me to move into a new season where I am putting on a new coat. One that doesn't fit yet but one that I will grow into. Each day trusting Him and watching Him blow my mind with what He can do through me.

Get ready I am coming home!!!

Team BURN

This month is completely different for me. I am on a new team that is composed of a person or two from each team called the BURN team. We are a prophetic worship team claiming the truth of the gospel through worship. During the last few months there were a few people who felt that they really wanted to step out in the prophetic with a team. The prophetic is encouraging and building up of the body of Christ through giving words from God. Basically speaking out the words that God has put on your heart. This team is built around worshiping and giving prophetic words! And for our last month we are serving in Berlin, Germany with an organization called BURN. BURN is a group committed to eventually making 24 hour worship everyday of the year!! With the intend of this worship being to contend and intercede for cities and nations for the kingdom. They are committed to saturating the city, in our case Berlin, in worship, praise and prophetic declarations (prophetic declarations are promises God has for the city). Through worship the spiritual climate is changed and is opening up the people to hear the word of God! This is a movement in the physical and spiritual to commit to take back cities for the kingdom! It is truly a blessing to be apart of this movement.

Really all of this is just really cool. We had a 24 hour bus ride here from Ukraine which was pretty good. We were completely blessed by our contacts here Chuck and Della!! We were able to pray for them and just had an incredible Holy Spirit healing moment with them that brought us so close that we could just worship together as brothers and sisters! That is one thing that is amazing about being here that it doesn't matter where you are from but that we are all worshiping God together. That is all that matters. Right now I am writing this while the 28 hour BURN that we are apart of is going on in the next room and it sounds amazing because we are all coming together from different nations to praise God!! Hallelujah!! WE are praying for this city together during a crazy time in the month where witchcraft is huge! Praise God that we can just worship and dwell in His presence and we are bringing kingdom and changing this place just by praising God and singing our praises. How amazing is that?! Just by saying how grateful we are changes THIS city.

If you think about it Berlin has only been free I think for about 20 years and there is a lot of horrible things that have happened here. This is a city where a lot of redemption needs to take place. A lot of healing and restoration needs to come and the only one who can do that is God Almighty!! He is the Redeemer and the Healer. He can heal this nation! There has also been a lot of prophecy about Berlin going through a revival and God using this city to pour out to other European nations!! Praise God!

As a body lets unite together to pray, praise, worship, proclaim truth, bring life, resurrect, minister to , claim victory, bring freedom to the nations!!! Yeah Jesus!!

The Ukraine is definitely a different country. When we first got here we all had culture shock just because we were in a big city again. We are living here in Kiev in an apartment with both girl teams. Yes there are 14 girls living together and it has been working out pretty well!! When we first arrived here in Kiev we did not have any ministries set up but we did know a previous world racer that helped us out a ton! He was able to arrange housing for us and he took us to a church service that had a lot of the leaders of missionary groups there. Our search for a ministry began. We ended up serving with a few ministries and pouring into people that we met along the way!

One of our main focuses of ministry was helping teachers with their English classes. Six teammates worked with two different classes and Renee and Jenni worked at a Christian early development school. This month was definitely different with all of us doing different ministries. God is also slowly getting me used to living at home again, well not with living with 13 other women but with everyone having different jobs and still living in community and fellowship!

I taught English with Tonya and Stephanie and our first day was a little hard for me. I kept having flash backs to all my tutors for English and hooked on phonics lessons!! It was kind of a weird crazy experience the first day. After that I have a huge respect for teachers!!! Especially for my friends Leah and Matt, who both want to make a difference in the world through teaching, praise God for people like you!! You teachers our there are truly amazing!! God bless you all. After a few days of English I got used to the students and their different personalities and the different ways of teaching them and it got easier. I was mostly excited that we were able to help the teacher out a lot!! She thanked us a ton for helping her out. At the end of our time there we were able to pray over her and that for me was incredible. I really respect her and know that God is going to bless her!

We were also able to work with an YWAM team that works in a trade school. We were able to go help them with their ministry. The four that we worked with were from all over and they were putting on a caf time for the kids that lived there. At this school there are kids who have parents and just go during the week and there are kids who live there because they are orphans. We just helped out that team and talked with the kids and made bracelets, played games and hung out. That group of YWAM people really impressed me. I was really blessed to see them in action with the kids. I enjoyed just seeing other missionaries who care so much about the youth that they are serving!!

Youth program, Ukraine

During our time here we were able to attend a few churches and one of those was International Christian Assembly. I was incredibly excited to be able to go to an Assembly church since those are the ones I typically go to at home! I really thanked God for it because I know that He is slowly reintroducing to home back in the states and getting me ready for reentering the US.

Also just being in church was awesome in itself. A lot of times when we are doing ministry our team does not get to just go to a service and relax and be filled. We are generally helping put on a service so it was really nice to just sit back and enjoy.

While I was sitting in one of the services I heard the pastor announce the first meeting of the youth program that they are starting! I was thrilled and showed up to the first youth meeting the following week. I was able to meet with the young couples that were heading it up and pray for them and help them out with one of the meetings. For one meeting I planned an activity that would help them begin to share about their relationship with God with their new family. I used a bunch of photos from an outreach tool that Campus Crusade for Christ uses called Soularium. There are several pictures and I had everyone point out the one that they felt described their relationship with God and share with the group. It was cool because they all had different insight no matter which photo they picked. This youth group got me excited; they are a phenomenal bunch of young adults who are going to impact the world!!

Working with them made me a 100 times more excited about coming home and working with our youth group at Eaton Rapids Assembly of God!! I am excited to come work with you all!! (Miss you guys!)

Dear Future World Racers,

Yes, what you hear is true! You will travel to different nations and meet people from many cultures. You will meet little orphans and they will hug you and soak up your love. You will plan church services, preach, do construction, evangelize, pray and everything else under the sun! You will proclaim the truth about Jesus Christ and many will choose to follow. As you speak of God's freedom people will come against you but you will persevere. You will pray and intercede for the multitudes because of who God is. You will see people set free from the grasp of the enemy and turn to the light. You will see God's power as you do the good work that He has laid out for you. You will see the Holy Spirit move in ways that blow your neat little ideas of Christianity out of the water. Yes, you will see God's power work as you trek through the nations!

The thing that you would never expect is that the biggest change is you. I would have never expected to be transformed so much. Now at month 9 I am in Romania looking back at old pictures and I cannot even recognize that person anymore. Through it all God has sifted me, grinded me, put me through the fire, mended me, restored me, and THEN renewed me. The thing no one tells you or at least no one told me was that this trip will change YOU. You will NEVER be the same. Ever. Praise God!

Through this year God will move and you will see Him work. He will ask you to surrender those parts of your life that you hold on to so tightly. He will ask you to surrender your dreams for the future, your family, your friends, your (precious) time, your expectations for tomorrow, your past and most of all yourself. He is asking for all of you - every part of your heart. He is asking for it again and again. He wants to redeem those broken parts and mend those areas we tried to patch up ourselves. He is constantly filled with love and compassion for you, but He is ready to move in now and uproot those weeds that have entangled you. He is ready and waiting. Through this race you will be brought to a place of surrender.

He will ask you to forgive those who hurt you and allow Him to take over that area with His love. He will ask you to surrender the control, the pride and the stubbornness, that you so dearly hang on to, so that He can be your faithful master. He will ask again and again "Do you trust me with this?" and continue to say "Let go my child. I did not design you to carry such a heavy burden. Surrender it to me." Finally, when you find yourself weary and exhausted of your old self and you finally realize that every attempt that you have made to fix it or repair the damage has failed, you let go. You begin to realize that HE is the designer.

Will you surrender? Or will you hold on to the past?

When you come to a place of true surrender and find your cup empty and say, "Lord, I am here, mend me." He takes you and romances your heart. As you trust Him with your broken, battered and bruised heart He goes to work. He begins to take off those man made patches that we used so desperately to patch up our own heart wounds and He meshes His heart with yours. He begins to heal those holes in your heart. Where your heart is weak His is stronger. Your hearts begin to beat as one. He strengthens your gifts and begins to reveal to you more of Him. He is going to bring up the bad and evil things that have happened in the past not to be cruel but to solely redeem them. He is going to show you how He designed you to work in those areas. Although this process is painful, vulnerable and messy He is good, perfect and faithful. Let's face it; He knows what He's doing.

He will show you the roots of the anger, envy, jealousy, selfishness, inadequacies and guilt that are surrounding you. He wants to tear those strongholds down so that you walk in victory in those areas that the enemy is trying to paralyze you in! God is tearing them down to lead you to victory.

He is showing you what it means to be grafted in. He is digging deep to every lie that you believe about yourself. He is going after those generational curses. He is searching after every hurt people have caused you. He is looking for all those insecurities so that He can show you who He claims you as, who He says you are, what your identity is in His power and to show you the authority that you walk in. All of this is not by confidence in you but in Him, in His name and His glory. He wants to show you what He can do.

So when you go on this trip, remember that you are signing up for your hearts to be wrecked and broken and to love like God loves, You are signing up to be transformed by the designer. He will lead you, transform you, mold you, put you through the fire and make you new. Will you go? Actually, Are you ready?

Servanthood in Romania

This month my team found ourselves with an unusual assignment. We were asked to help in the main house with serving our squad. In my head I thought "Serving?!? So that IS our ministry? God what's going on here?!" Serving to me felt so foreign. I really had to take time the first night to process this hefty task. To some of you out there you are jumping off your seats to serve people, you enjoy preparing meals and seeing people satisfied by your hard work. Well I am on the opposite end of that spectrum. I really enjoy receiving. I enjoy allowing those who like to serve to serve me and I receive what ever is being served with great delight! Yeah I felt like God was just laughing at my thought process at the beginning of this month. He is pretty funny!

After the first night of serving I sat down with God and just began to ask Him why do I have such a hard time humbling myself to serve others. I began to write down all the lies that I believed about serving...and there was quite a list. Here are some of them:

People who serve are seeking approval from others

Those who serve are really perfectionists who just do things themselves because they will do it the right way

That serving people is only cooking and cleaning

People who serve do not take care of themselves

People who serve do not receive well

As I wrote down a lot of these lies and more I realized that I really need to look at how Jesus served people. I began to go through verses of being a servant and how Jesus humbled himself to save us.

"...even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28

In 1 Corinthians chapter 9 verse 19 Paul writes "For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them."

These scriptures really began to show me if I want to be like Jesus I need to humble myself FAST and serve people like He did. Throughout this last week as I have been serving people and looking up how Jesus served I have just been completely impressed with Him! He gave up everything to serve people because He loves us. I have met all kinds of people and there are some...let's say interesting personalities (you know what I am talking about) and honestly would be excruciatingly hard to serve yet Jesus died for them too! And Paul said that he would gladly make himself a servant to all to show the way to Jesus!

All in all I am learning A LOT to say the least. I am learning that I can serve in a multitude of ways that are truly enjoyable to me. I was able to help a woman pick potatoes (pic above) and I also made way to many donuts for our squad with Jenni (pic to left). I praise God for stretching me and allowing me to take this time in Romania to learn and really absorb what He is trying to teach me.

Leadership in Lesotho

This month was interesting because we had a ninth member added to our team, our squadmate Cameron. I was excited to have him with us! I was also shocked that I was put in charge of leading such a big team! I was not sure how or what leading was going to look like this month. At the same time I was excited to pray in each day and Ask God what to do. Since part of our ministry was ministering to one another we were all able to grow a lot this past month. There was one day when I spoke to Cameron about our team and he pointed a lot of things that he saw that God was showing him that needed to be addressed. It was an amazing conversation because God instantly convicted me that I needed to step up and bring this to the team. I needed to seek God and then just express to the team that there was something off when we interact. I felt like there were a lot of awkward moments that just caused disconnect between each other. So I prayed. And I called a team meeting and just expressed my heart. Through my tears and brokenness for our team I drew attention to the disconnect and awkwardness. At the end I had each person pray for one another. (Pic Below: Team picture on the top of the mountains where we found a little snow!!)

Soon after that Stephanie got a lot of scripture about unity and the body of Christ and how we have a responsibility to help each other. God just began to work through everything. After I had that meeting with the team it just felt like something began. I called it the Beginning to the End in my journal. From then on at the end of each day of ministry we shared about our day and what impacted us. We shared our hearts to everyone. Whatever God was doing we shared. If we needed to cry we cried. If we needed prayer we received it. If we were angry we talked about it and prayed. We fought for our unity. We dove into a lot of scripture and a lot of people pursued different things that God was calling them to head up like bible studies and laying on of hands. Our openness and vulnerability completely crushed any disunity Satan was trying to attack us with!! We became a church then a family. Completely open to bring up any issue with confidence that we will always love one another no matter what. (Pic below: A physical picture of the light conquering the darkness)

I had a big focus on 1 John and Ephesians. But James 3:17 really spoke to my leadership this month. "But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere."

This verse just helped me understand what wisdom meant. I began to listen more and became slow to speak. This was a crucial lesson that I am so thankful I was able to learn.

That was my last month of leadership. For the next three months our new leader is Stephanie!! Please be praying for her. I have full confidence in her leadership. I know in all things she will seek God and not be afraid to make decisions for the team. I am really excited to see what God does in her and through her!!

Moving Forward (Press Play)

On September 3 we are headed to Romania to find out what is going on there and help some churches out. So far God has shared with me that there will be a lot of intercession and a deeper dive into the bible. I really feel like a lot of people who are quiet and those who study scripture the most are going to be used a lot in Eastern Europe. If you could all pray for those people that would be incredible. (This pic was in Lesotho but I wanted you all to see how beautiful it was!!)

Also I would like those who are reading this to pray for all the people on the squad's hearts to be here in the present and to not just look at the rest of this race as "only 3 months until home." Your prayers are very powerful and we need them to stay focused on the here and now and constantly looking for what God desires for us to do in these next cities. Thank you so much for your continued support, prayers and encouragement!!

God where do you want us to go?? Ask The Lord month

This month was our Ask The Lord month where we just go where ever God calls us to go. It is designed to help us live our lives by listening where, when and what God wants us to do every moment of the way. I loved and learned a lot on this journey. I loved being there and just asking God "What do you have for us today?" Every time we listened to God we received visions, scripture and words from God!! We surrendered everyday to Him and watched Him provide and use us!

As we prayed about August my team felt God was calling them to either Lesotho or Namibia. Everyone on the team agreed that I should make the decision. Wow! This was such a challenge for me. Partially I was wondering why God did not just give us all a clear answer because that would be so much easier. The next day I fasted for the answer and but I felt like I was still not getting one. When it came down to it I just needed to lead and make a decision. God was definitely growing me in decision making and confronting conflict in leadership. It is incredible all the different situations that God uses to refine us and prepare us for what He has in the future. So do not shy away from hard situations because God is probably trying to help you grow in that area to mold you and prepare you...really take time and ASK HIM. At the end of the day I picked Lesotho. All I knew about this place was that there were mountains and possibly snow and that it was close to us. I like mountains and wanted to go there so we could have a long ministry time. Everyone was on board and so we began our journey!!

We began with prayer and God revealed a southern direction and the letters MOOR. I took a map and looked for a city that started with those letters and there it was Mount Moorosi! We were so excited that we had a city to go to!! We ventured to Durban, South Africa from Swaziland to take our break/debrief. During that time I got to Sky Dive and it was awesome to just go and feel like this is how life should be with full trust in God, just like a freefall!

During our time in Durban we began to plan how to get to Lesotho and we still ran into trouble finding transport there. A lot of people did not want to go there because of all the mountains. We really had to just ask God to provide a way. I just felt like we just had to start moving and that it is okay to not go with everything planned out. So we went to the next city closer to Lesotho. We found a ride to the boarder of Lesotho but no ride to Mount Moorosi. We kept on moving. Every driver we met we asked do you know any one who can take us to this city and every driver set up our next connection to the next city until we arrived at our destination Mount Moorosi Chalets. We took 4 different vehicles and camped one night and we finally found ourselves there!! Trust God!

The Work in Lesotho

Lesotho is pronounced Le-sue-two. It took us a while to get an understanding of this country. We heard so many things. That it was cold, mountainous and snowy and comments like "why would you want to go there?" I also noticed a sign at the boarder that said "Fight against Xenophobia." Xenophobia was defined as hate or fear of foreigners! Yeah we felt invited. Praise God every person we met was incredible and did not fear us.

We began our ministry going up the mountain to a village that we could see. We hiked up and tried to communicate with people and quickly realized that we needed a translator but we still spent the whole day just sitting with the woman in the village. Next we prayed for a translator and a day later a man walked off of the bus with us and he spoke English and the local language Sosotho and he was a Christian! We asked if he would help translate and he said yes! We went and talked to more people about who Jesus is and we discovered that most people are Roman Catholic. The first day we had our translator, Bernard, we were invited into a hut and about 20 adults and children surrounded us. We shared with them about Jesus. Our whole team spoke up and just began to talk about who Jesus is and what his purpose was to make sure they understood. Then one of the men that we prayed for asked "Is there something I can read about what you told me?" We were so overjoyed and said "YES, of course the bible!!" We later bought them bibles. The rest of the community proved to be just as open to hearing about Jesus and prayer. (pic above first hike up moountain; Pic below when we handed off the gospel picture scroll)

One morning while we were praying I felt that it would be cool to draw out a few bible stories on this roll of paper that I had and present it to them to help them understand the bible that we got them. I told the team not really sure how it was going to happen but they took the idea and made it happen. Part of us researched the bible stories and we did about 15 people in the bible. We ended up making a really long scroll that had pictures and verses and at the end presented it to them!! (Pic below Steph presenting the scroll)

We also participated at Bernard's church and preached there. We prayed for them and I received a vision for them. That was exciting for me because I did not know anything about this church and the vision I had lined up exactly with what they were going through!! My vision was the Holy Spirit plowing a new path from the main road and asking them to follow and trust God even though sometimes there are thorns and thistles along the path. I just wanted to reassure the pastor to trust what God was leading him in for the church. After that I found out this church was a church plant and just broke off from the main church the day we came! We also let them know about the gospel scroll we made and they are planning on using it!

This month we just saw God work in our own lives as well as the people that we prayed for in big ways. People heard the truth. We prayed darkness away from huts and areas. We fought spiritual battles. We saw people healed. We asked God and watched Him work!( Pic to left: Cameron met some boys in the village; the pic below Jenn is ministering to the Chief).

In Zimbabwe we were trying to get internet and so we ventured off to a church that had free wi-fi. And a man named Marvin approached me and said Is your name Kim? I awkwardly responded Yes. And Marvin proceeded to tell me that he was looking for someone who was good with kids and he had asked my teammates and they suggested me! He asked if I would be willing to help and of course I was. He proceeded to tell me a story of a street kid named Jo-Jo who refused to go back home. He really liked being in town and ran away from home to be there. Marvin said that he even rode on a bus with him home and checked out the family and they were a loving and respected family in the community. But no matter how many times Marvin took Jo-Jo back home he somehow hitched a ride back to town.

Soon after our talk I met Jo-Jo. He was a giggly boy who I think was really shy around girls because he kept running away from me. I chased him for a while just to see what he would do. He just ran future away having nothing to do with me. I brought my teammates Jenni and Jenn to talk to him and they tried really hard to talk to him but he kept running away from us. We left him alone for a while so that he could not be so overwhelmed by all of us. I just began to pray for him and then God gave me an idea: passing notes! I wrote him a note and he responded. The notes continued and he continued to drop them off near me. It was awesome! I felt incredible that God use me to reach this kid even though there were many people that He could have used. I really felt honored to be able to help.

Why dont you go home and finish school and hang out with your brother? You have your whole life to live in town but only a short time with your family.

After a while our team had to leave and he stopped answering the notes. I figured he did not answer since the last question was a tough one. A few days later I received a phone call from Marvin and he thanked me for talking to Jo-Jo and told me the good news that Jo-Jo decided to go back home!! I was in shock!! Wow Praise God for using me to help Jo-Jo go back to his home so he can continue school and be with his family!!

It was awesome to be apart of that and to realize that God uses all of us in specific situations and even though sometimes we think oh God can use someone elsethat is not always true. He has prepared good works for you to do where you are at. Keep your eyes open and always be ready to do those good works!! Love you guys!

Transformation- Swaziland

Two weeks ago (in Swaziland) was the first time that I felt like I did not want to be here. My emotions were filled with anger, frustration, inadequacy and a lot of tears. I cried a lot about how I cannot be a leader anymore and how I should not be here. When it came down to I just asked God to send me home...

But then I remembered talking to one of my teammates, Jenni and she asked me when I started feeling this way and it was after I had a really intense prayer time with Erica. And then things started to all come together...

A month ago a few people told me that God wanted to move my gifts to a whole new level and that I would be blessed with gifts not even I could predict. Interesting!?! I really think that those hard times were just for me to move forward. It was a time for transition where I did not feel like I knew who I was because I was not who I was but not who God was creating me into. But now I finally feel like I am entering into a new level of prayer and I am finally figuring out my leadership style. I am basically being the person that God has created me to be in this moment. More importantly I am not conforming to what the world defines my giftings as but I am allowing God to work in the unique ways that He truly desires to work through me!

In Mark 8:4 it says "And his disciples answered him, "How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?" Jesus was asking the disciples to feed the 4,000 people that were following him for three days. And the disciples turned to Jesus and were like really how can we feed all these people when we do not have a lot and there is no where to get food. But Jesus then asked the disciples "Well, what do you have?" And they replied "seven loaves and a few fish." And they gave Jesus what they had and he multiplied it. Jesus was asking his disciples to surrender and sacrifice what they had to serve the 4,000 people. He is asking them to give what they have so that he can multiply it. That is what we are doing here. We are surrendering the little that we have and allowing God to show off!

Here on the eastern side of Zimbabwe we work with an organization called Heal Africa Trust. This main purpose of this ministry is to heal these peoples mind, body and soul. We are working with Pastor Bryan and his staff to bring healing with the areas that have the most poverty. They share the gospel with these people to spread the hope of Jesus Christ. We are just coming along side them and helping them in their ministry. One of their main forms of provision is medical clinics. The two days that we have done this we have served about 200 people!

They are continuing to branch out in more opportunities that the Lord is blessing them with. One of these is doing educational programming against the stigmatism of HIV/AIDS. Another is advocating for resources for some of the displaced families to learn trades and acquire land. It has been a real honor to see this organization get started and to see so many people pour into it. The faith that these people have to begin such a life changing movement really is incredible! I am definitely taking notes on how they continue to surrender the little that they have to allow God to multiply it. Talk about being a disciple of Christ! Just think of the ways that Jesus wants to do that in your life...

Thailand and The Bars

During this past month we spent our time in ministry with an organization called SHE, Self Help and Empowerment. This Christian based ministry primarily focuses on a tourist area in Thailand that makes most of its money off of prostitution. SHE goes into these bar areas and offers the women who work in the bars another job. They are offered a job living arrangements with SHE which will include baking cookies, making chocolates and making jewelry. As short term missionaries we get the honor of going into the bars and talking to the women there and offering them a new job. (pic on left one of the bars)

I went out to the bars a few times a week and met many women and men. There were a range of women that I met some that liked being in the bars, some that just wanted a way out of the bars and most that felt like this was their only option to get a lot of money to pay off their debt. The last one was most of the workers reason for being there. Most women that I met were disgusted by the old tourist men that they had to satisfy at night but they felt they needed the money more. Honestly these last few weeks were a little hard to talk to girls who felt like they had no choice but to work in the bars for fast money. Even when we offered some of them another job they said that they need more money than that. It was a hard realization to the lifestyle there.

Although there were hard conversations there were also really encouraging ones. We were able to talk to several women who did not want to work in the bars. We invited these women to the SHE household and showed them the new job they could have baking cookies, making jewelry and even making chocolates. Many of them enjoyed it. I even met a woman that was near to my heart. She loved the house and put in her resignation for the bar job by the end of the month! (pic right chocolates the women made at SHE)

This experience was filled with a lot of victory in the darkness. Everyday we prayed on these streets that these women were selling themselves on. We prayed for their freedom. We fought for them. And we got to see so much victory! At the end of our time there we got to baptize 6 women who have left the bars and dedicated their lives to the Lord! One of which gave her life to the Lord during time that we were there! Praise God that He is working and moving in mighty ways all over the WORLD!! (pic left my teammate Jenni Weir making cookies)

Also I want you to know that I spent a lot of time praying for the men sex tourists at the bar. God really gave me a compassionate heart toward them. Seeing these older men sit at the bars alone even when they could buy a girl was really sad. You could just see that this prostitution was not satisfying them and for good reason since God created them to be completely satisfied by knowing Him. Honestly I just felt for these men, like God has so much more for you then just sitting at this bar. It was like they were missing it. They were missing that God almighty has called them to a greater purpose in than this. God has called these men to be leaders, to be loved by God who created all things and to marry a woman who loves him mind, body and soul. Praise God that I got opportunities to pray with some of these men and just gently share with them my testimony and what God can bring you through if you let Him.

We were told to just love people. This last month was really a time of faith in the power of God. The month was a time to trust that God works in incredible ways and reveals himself in sweet ways to people and that we just need to pray and wait for those moments to arise. As we prayed and waited we got several chances to see God work in incredible ways. One of my teammates had a girl randomly come up to her and ask her who God is! Other times the Holy Spirit directed the conversation into a full sharing of the gospel and our testimonies. One of the most satisfying things is to see the Holy Spirit move in a place where idols, like 20 ft statues, are served and worshiped and given offerings daily. The type of spiritual warfare around these people is intense because of their worship of idols. They also give sacrifices such as fruit, incenses and flowers to please the idols/demons that they invite in their homes. When I see all of this going on I feel like this place is dark spiritually. But I love seeing the Lord Almighty, the one True God overcome all evil and all circumstances to bring light to the darkness, freedom to the captives and healing to the sick!!

God, I praise your name! You are worthy of all the praise. Hallelujah that you restore us and make us strong. I praise you that you are God who created us and then gave your sons life so that we may live eternally with you. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves yet you saved us not because of anything we did but because you love us! Thank you God, I love you so much!

Take a Chance

Sometimes we need to take chances. We are called to step out into the world and share our beliefs. Share who we are, where we came from and who changed us. We are given many opportunities to share about our one true love, our Father in Heaven. It is our choice to take that opportunity and share our hearts.

The opportunities that He has given us here are incredible. We have had phenomenal conversations that only He could create. I praise Him for the few but miraculous times that I have been able to share who He is and what He has done for us. It is amazing that the miracles that He has done in my life are being used to make friendships and share more about this message of freedom. These people need a savior. Hey everyone we are in Vietnam!! Here is a little bit of what has been going on here.

We got to experience some historical sites. We visited the international palace and the Vietnamese War Museum. We definitely saw a different perspective of the war. I also took A LOT of pictures and videos so you all can feel like you are here! I will post that next so you will have to wait a few days until I post everything :)

We are also staying in a hotel with some interesting guests. This hotel allows some prostitution... we are definitely here to lift up this community of people to our Father. Our room is near the stair well and it is definitely strange and sad to hear people walking up and down the stairs and in and out of rooms knowing what perversion they are there for. Honestly I don't understand how all this stuff can happen but I have been reminded by the Big man upstairs that this stuff happens all the time its just now that we are able to get a glimpse of what some peoples reality is.

As a team this month is really bringing us together. I can really see us growing in our gifts and who we are. I am really grateful for this time and I am having a lot of fun meeting lots of people my age. They are all a real joy to talk with!! Yeah also I am really excited to teach others how to play ultimate frisbee- I know a lot of you all are excited about it!

Our Day, Cambodia

Our Day

8am- go to ministry site via tuk-tuk (picture)

We drive about 20mins or so to the slums past the dump. The dump has thick smog of filth in the air above it from the burning trash. We travel to the place where the garbage collectors live in the slums. There is a missionary network there called Tree of life. In the morning we go around and talk to the people about their needs and who Jesus is. We all have been focused on praying for them. If they have a problem we pray for it and we most often ask ourselves if we can be a blessing to them whether it means bring them food, play with their kids, or referring them to a clinic. After that we break for lunch.

12pm-2pm Lunch and a little nap. It is so HOT here that there is need for a nap and rehydration time! I drink A LOT of water! It's remarkable how hot it is!

2-4:30 Back at our ministry site we watch the missionary group teach health education to small groups of people in the community. After health education our team teaches a lesson about Jesus. There are a lot of verbal lessons taught since most of the population there are illiterate. Even if they were given a bible they would need someone to read it to them! Reading... it is remarkable the small things that we take for granted! Thank you God that I had the opportunity to learn how to read! Hallelujah!

At 5pm we eat dinner

Generally our team has a feet/hand washing party after our ministry then dinner...it feels good!

Spiritual Download

Most people here incorporate Buddhism, Hinduism and other spirit worship. To break that down from what I have noticed is that they give sacrifices to mostly all the gods that they hear about to cover all bases. In order to please the spirits they have some type of spirit house in the drive way and some have it in their house. This is a place they ask spirits to come and live and they give offerings like fruit, incenses and maybe some other things. They also burn incenses and give offerings to trees, buildings, sculptures, etc. They believe everything has a spirit. (picture- Buddhist temple, there was a spiritual feeling of hundreds of voices booming around me at once. There were a lot of idols)

Christian Download

Sharing the gospel is a bit different here because we need to make sure that people realize that there is only one true God. Also helping them realize that they do not need to give sacrifices to please spirits. Here we are introducing who Jesus Christ is and telling his stories since people do not have the luxury of having a bible or knowing how to read. When someone is asked if they want to accept Christ it is also tricky since sometimes they just say yes because they just want to please you. In a lot of this ministry we trust the Lord to work in their hearts.

TRAVELING

We flew from Dominican Republic to Miami to LA (which we had one glorious day of rest in America and restocked at Target: ). Then we flew from LA to Tokyo, Japan and had a fun 3 hour layover in Tokyo's amazing airport! It was pretty fun to explore. We then ventured on another long flight to Bangkok, Thailand. From there we took a bus to the border and immigrated. Then we got on another bus to our ministry site. In all of this travel we definitely skipped over half a day and we travel for 4 days a total of 82 hours!! Yeah get your time travel calculators out! Seriously get digitizing...or calculating...which ever word works for you:)

HISTORY

Here we are in Cambodia! We have spent a day getting our bearings and being introduced to some cultural norms. We also received a history lesson on this country which I found amazing. Some of the most interesting facts are how many times this land has been conquered and fought over and rebuilt. It has been fought and conquered by the Thai, the Cham, the Vietnamese, the French, the Japanese, the Americans and the Vietnamese again. Between 1864 and 1940's the French had control over Cambodia. They lost control during World War 2 to the Japanese which allowed the Cambodians to have more reign over their government than with the French. The French later returned to Cambodia to regain the land but the Cambodian people fought for freedom and acquired it in 1954.

Soon after, the American war with Vietnam in the 60's affected the ruling of the leadership of Pol Pot in the northeast of Cambodia. During the American-Vietnam war the Vietnamese troops were traveling through Cambodia to get the South of Vietnam. The Americans would bomb Cambodia to try to kill the Vietnamese people. This caused an uprising in two different governments that began the civil war.

The civil war here was a fight between the Lon Nol's government and the Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge. When the Khmer Rouge took power they began to kill anyone who was associated with the government that they were fighting against. They began a genocide that was bigger than the Holocaust. The Khmer Rouge killed anyone who was educated, because they had been corrupted by Western thinking. They also killed Buddhist monks and over 90% of the Christians. By the end of the Khmer Rouge rule, as many as 2 million people had died; about 1/3 of the population! The Khmer Rouge then went to invade Vietnam, but by 1979 the Vietnamese troops had seized Phnom Penh (Capital of Cambodia). (Fast forward...) During the 90's the United Nations has set up treaties and elections. In 1999 there was they first year of peace since 1989!

VISITING THE PAST

We had a chance to visit the high school (above) that the Khmer Rouge turned into a torture facility. We also visited one of the many killing fields where the Khmer Rouge took bus loads of people and killed them. The least I can say is that the entire experience was really intense. To hear and walk through places that a third of their nation was tortured and killed at was insane. This entire experience helped me understand more about the grief and loss that this place and its people have suffered. As we minister to these people we need to always keep in mind that the people who survived that time period are still alive today. They are still hold the scars and memories of what was ripped away from them during the Khmer Rouge. (pictures: Left- me reading history and walking through halls; Right-Victims pictures)

But Hallelujah that this nation is on the uprising and recovering and they are finally in charge of what is going on in their country. As we walk around to different places we can see that work is being done to make help the people here. We see a lot of non-government organizations contributing to the community's here- schools, clinics, etc.

As for religion this country mainly celebrates Buddhism which in actuality here is a combination of Hinduism, Buddhism, Animism, Ancestor worship and Humanism. I'm not sure if I got those all right but all religions right but they all exist here. In 1989 there was about 300 Christians here but nowadays there are more than 200,000 Christians!

OUR MINISTRY

We are located in the slums near Rubbish Mountain. Rubbish Mountain is a trash dump where many people make their living trying to make use out the garbage. They collect bottles to sell the plastic back and old shoes to restore them and sell them. I am still not sure what else they collect but they sell it back to companies I believe on the mountain. They make about $1-2 dollars a day for about a 10-13 hour work day. That is enough to have food for a day and maybe pay for rent. If the kids want to go to school they work one day and maybe go to school for one or two days. We are working alongside Tree of Life Missionary Network which YWAM connected us to. They teach the community about health, play with the children, tell people about Jesus and work at the clinic. Pray for clear communication with the Cambodians. Also that we do not offend anyone.

Pray that we follow Gods direction in everything.

Pray for strength against the enemy when he throws our past sin in our face to get us down. We heard that any sin that people struggle or struggled with is intensified here.

Here are some funny tidbits we discovered about Haiti:

1. 1) Atomik energy drinks with GINSENG are rated #1 by our team. (Ragaman energy drink comes in at a close second;)

2. 2) There are no working ATMs ANYWHERE!

3. 3) Riding the Tap-Tap is phenomenal! (Below) Just keep cramming people in!

4. 4) Water and Toilet paper are a luxury... Don't Abuse IT! (well except to HYDRATE)

5. 5) CANDY JUICE!!!!!!!!!! Ok...so there is this juice that tastes like liquid smarties! Yes it is scientifically possible! SO GOOD!!

6. 6) (Haitian Dollar*5)/8= ACTUAL price.....The Haitian dollar does not exist. Every time we go to buy anything they tell us the price in Haitian Dollars which is an old currently non-existent currency. The currency are Goudes ("goods"). So in order to convert you need to multiply Haitian Dollar by 5 to get Gouds and divide by 8 to figure out American dollars! Haha!

We are about to leave our missions contacts Candace and Amos at the YWAM base here in Jacmel. We will be heading back to the Dominican Republic to start our debrief with our coaches on Sunday. Our time here consisted of house to house evangelism, street services and vacation bible school. Amongst these we introduced people to God, we challenged legalistic lives with an intimate relationship with God (legalism: belief that following religious rules is how you are in good standing with God). We combated the spiritual warfare head on; rebuking demons and rebuking spiritual/voodoo attacks. We have given our love to the Orphans of the YWAM base. We have encouraged the Christians here in Haiti; we had a chance to meet youth who wanted to missionaries and where passionate about God. We were also blessed to share testimonies with other missionaries. (picture is the view from our roof)

As we leave this country I believe that we have showed them freedom and healing. Those who heard about Jesus and choose to believe in Him received freedom from darkness. Those who choose to believe in God received healing from headaches, spiritual warfare and voodoo.

Another group of missionaries that we met here prayed healing over people in the hospital. Broken legs were healed, eyesight was restored and a prisoner was set free. We heard another testimony from other missionaries that a witchdoctor accepted Jesus Christ! Hallelujah that the body of Christ is at work in Haiti! We are leaving this place victorious in the promise that God loves His people and has come to deliver freedom and healing to his people.

Jacmel, Haiti

hey guys! we arrived in Jacmel, Haiti on the 2nd. We traveled for about 13 hrs ...i think! It was a long haul and we are staying at the YWAM base. We were able to meet a few other missionaries which is exciting. On our way across the border we faced some resistance right away. I guess there were people who just so happened to be protesting the bus line that we rode on! I know it was a bit crazy but we prayed for a while and they finally allowed us to cross the border! Praise God!

When we entered the country the words God put in my head were FREEDOM and HEALING. That is kind of my theme for this trip. Please pray for that for this country and the remainder of our trip. A lot of people here practice voodoo and this is a dark place spiritually. Pray against the spiritual warfare and please pray for our strength and for God to do miracles in the hearts of these people.

So far we have done evangelism and held services in a field. This mean we talked to people about God and told them more about Jesus. They were highly receptive. It seems a lot of people know Jesus but it does not seem like they live it out in their lives. Our services consisted of a LOT of dramas, testimonies and a presentation of the gospel. There has been several people who accepted Christ!! These next weeks we will be putting on vacation bible school and have time to do some follow up. And I heard that we might get a chance to go to a hospital!!! please pray for that one!!

Please pray for healing for some of our teammates they got sick with kidney stones, colds, coughs.

Personal notes: Mom, Dave, Toni and Evin I miss u guys a bunch!! Evin some missionaries down here are using salt water to make chlorine to put into water to make it pure water!! Craziness! love you all so much!! Kyle sorry i was not able to get in touch with you so you could come visit:( I even had a dream that you came here and were showing our team around! Leah, Jess, mark miss u guys!! Go Green!!

EVERYONE on MARCH 3RD we will be in LA so you all can come visit and bring supplies. We are done with Haiti on Feb 22nd and we will be back in Dominican Republic until March 2nd so I will write more blogs and check my emails then. It is too hard to do it here so bear with me:)
